about me

Elijah Rivers Hall (b. 2004) is a composer and percussionist drawn to music that tells stories, creates worlds, and ultimately invites listeners to feel deeply. His acoustic and electro-acoustic music often embraces maximalist textures juxtaposed with moments of intimacy- all within the framework that is our deeply post-ironic and post-modern world. He is a member of the contemporary chamber music duo bush cricket and fusion rock band/percussion group Runner Blue.

As a composer, he finds joy in exploring the limitless possibilities of sound, from the intimacy of chamber music to the energy of large ensembles and the ever-evolving world of electronic and electroacoustic music. His work is driven by curiosity, experimentation, and a desire to create music that feels both deeply personal and connected to the world around him. He is particularly interested in the ways music can blur the boundaries between the acoustic and electronic, the familiar and unfamiliar, and the sincere and surreal. Elijah has collaborated with numerous ensembles and individuals, including the Blue Saxophone Quartet, Kansas State University Percussion Ensemble, University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, Capital University Percussion Ensemble, University of Michigan Chamber Choir, University of Michigan Youth Ensembles, and the Bergamot Quartet.

As a percussionist, Elijah has performed with ensembles including the Bergamot Quartet and the University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble, as well as Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (2024) and The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps (2022). His work as a performer has also brought him into collaboration with artists including Tristan Perich, Travis Laplante, Tyundai Braxton, and Robert Maggio. Outside of the concert hall, he has performed with the psychedelic rock/ percussion group Runner Blue, exploring the intersections of experimental music, improvisation, and live performance.

As an educator, he is passionate about making music theory, composition, and performance accessible, engaging, and creatively rewarding. With experience teaching music theory in the classroom and working with students as performers and composers, he strives to help each student develop both a strong technical foundation and an individual artistic voice. He believes that teaching is not simply about passing down knowledge, but about giving students the tools and confidence to discover what they want to say through music.
